May Quilt Block Pattern 2024 Block of the Month Party

Our 12″ quilt block will be made with all of the fabrics that are included in the entire quilt. To help you keep track of all these pieces, you’ve got some fabric labels on hand to stay organized. I recommend cutting out the labels first, then pinning or clipping them to their corresponding pieces while you are cutting fabric. It will also be important to use the labels right away to help you distinguish between the 1 7/8″ squares and 2″ squares that are cut from the same fabrics. This means they can end up looking very similar in size, and mixing them up during piecing might throw off your block a little bit.

This block might challenge you with some organizational skills and habits, but patience and perseverence will pay off when you complete the 12″ block. Check out this beauty! I love the opportunity to fussy cut the center piece A as well!

Video Tutorials for Beginners

Each month, quilters get to practice a new piecing skill with the block of the month with the help of a video tutorial. This month, we continue practicing matching points with seams that meet on the diagonal. We will use pins to mark and match our points, and find our seam intersections to use a guide when we sew at the machine.

Quilt Block Projects

I love being able to make a quilt block each month because quilt block patterns give people the choice to incorporate their makes into a sampler quilt or into other small projects. As soon as this May 12″ quilt block was complete, I knew I had to turn it into a tote bag! It just made sense, look at how the corner squares box up the bottom of my tote bag so perfectly!
