What are Disappearing Quilt Blocks? X My Heart Quilt Pattern

Disappearing quilt blocks in quilting are units of quilting fabric pieced together into an initial block, which is then cut up and pieced back together into a new arrangement. Essentially, the design of the initial block ‘disappears’ and transforms into something that is hopefully more interesting!

Two Quilting Patterns That Use Disappearing Quilt Blocks

The X My Heart pattern pays tribute to the journeys we take in overcoming life’s obstacles. After piecing some rather simple, perfectly fine-looking blocks, the instructions will advise you to cut them in half, rearrange, and piece them back together into the new Cross Blocks. I believe that the new Cross Blocks are more charming, elegant, and beautiful than their original versions. And so perhaps it is possible that our life experiences have challenged us to piece ourselves back into more compassionate, empathetic, unique and resilient individuals.

This pattern comes in a quilt version [left] and a double-pillow version [right].
