Before we dive into the tutorial, make sure you have the following materials ready:

- 7″ x 7″ backing fabric
- 7″ x 7″ piece of batting
Instructions for Making your Free Mini Pumpkin Coaster
- Quilt the Pumpkin Block: Place your completed paper-pieced pumpkin block on top of the batting (right side up). Quilt as desired — I chose a simple grid pattern.
- Trim the Batting: Trim the excess batting. To square it up, start by trimming one edge, then trim the next edge perpendicular to the first, using the horizontal lines on your ruler for accuracy.
- Sew Inside Out: Place the quilted top and backing fabric right sides together (don’t worry about the excess backing). Sew a 1/4-inch seam around the edges, leaving a 2 1/2-inch opening.
- Trim the Corners: Before turning it right side out, trim the corners to reduce bulk, but be careful not to cut into the stitches.
- Turn Right Side Out: Carefully turn the coaster right side out and poke out the corners. Press the edges and corners flat.
- Close the Opening and Top Stitch: Fold the raw edges at the opening inward, press, and top stitch about 1/8-inch from the edge to secure the entire coaster.
